Nestled in the peaceful village of Codeçoso, my recent stay at Casas Coração was a highlight of the trip. This charming country retreat, perched above the hosts’ residence, offers complete privacy, cozy ambiance, and a chance to unwind amidst stunning natural beauty.
The hosts, a delightful couple, spoke little English but were impressively fluent with Google Translate. Their two friendly dogs were eager to make friends, adding a bit of playful joy to the stay. One of my favorite moments was turning around while cooking to find one of the dogs wagging its tail happily in the living room.
The guest unit was a sanctuary, with two bedrooms—one a primary suite and the other a cozy bunk room—making it ideal for families or couples. The American-style kitchen became my favorite spot, fully stocked with utensils, spices, and essentials for home-cooked meals. On arrival, the hosts welcomed me with a thoughtful spread of bread, eggs, fruit, vegetables, wine, and liquor, instantly making me feel at home.
Outside, a patio overlooking the mountains became my go-to spot for morning coffee and sunset reflections. With the doors open to let in the mountain air, the retreat felt deeply connected to nature—though the dogs occasionally popping in added some fun to the peaceful vibe.
Exploring the village was equally enchanting, with vineyards, summer villas, and friendly locals at every turn. A nearby bike trail offers a scenic way to explore the landscape, and with a car, it’s easy to access a major grocery store for any extra supplies. Casas Coração is perfect for anyone seeking peace, comfort, and connection with nature. Whether traveling with family, planning a romantic getaway, or just needing a break from city life, this retreat offers it all.
